I am amazed by the number of auto accidents that could be avoided. Everyday when I come to work at Triest Agency in our Charleston main office I get emails from our insurance companies like Travelers, AARP Hartford, SAFECO and Progressive advising me of new claims from my clients. So many of the auto insurance claims are from my client's car being hit in a parking lot. Backing up in a parking lot is dangerous. Besides the possibility of your car hitting a person or child, there are shopping carts and crazy drivers to avoid. How many times have you backed up and had to slam on your brakes because another car is backing up at the same time and almost hit you because they're not looking? My advice to clients is to avoid parking in spaces where you have to backup to get out. That's really not that difficult. You can almost always find a space where you can park facing forward so when you leave you can just drive straight out and not have to backup. You can also backup to park. A safer alternative than backing up to get out. Notice how professional drivers park. They're trained to avoid situations where the risk of a claim is higher.
Try my advice and tell me what you think....
